Reggae evolved in the late sixties as a natural extension of the music known as Rocksteady. There is controversy regarding what song is to be regarded the first reggae song. Lee »Scrath« Perry's »People Funny Boy« (1968) and Larry Marshalls »Nanny Goat« (1968) are two of the songs that are commonly mentioned as the earliest reggae songs recorded.
