King Tubby's

Page history last edited by PBworks 15 years, 10 months ago

King Tubby's (UK) was a Sound System (not to be confused with the Jamaican originator King Tubby's Hometown Hifi) from Brixton in South East London, that was founded in 1970. The founder was Cecil Rennie also known as King/Father Tubby's who chose the name as a sign of appreciation to Osbourne Ruddock (the original King Tubby) whom he saw as an inspiration and mentor.

In late 1977 they had a residency at the White Swan pub in Crystal Palace.

In 2003 King Tubby's took the crown as Londons #1 Sound System.

Deejays such as the later Saxon MC Tippa Irie started off on King Tubby's alongside General Slater. By the mid 80's the MC's Jubie Roy and Peter Irie were regulars on the sound. Nowadays Scrappa (main selector), Bucky (dub fi dub specialist), Bigger U (main selector) and of course Cecil Rennie form King Tubby's.
