Blues And Soul was/is a black music magazine. It was founded in the late 60's and is still being published today. It started featuring Reggae articles in the late 60's when Reggae music entered the pop charts in the UK. These features were usually just a chart and a run down of new releases.
In 1973 Chris Lane started writing for the magazine and in so doing became the first serious writer on the subject outside of Jamaica. Chris Lane left the paper in early 1976 later that year Dave Hendley of Sufferers Heights fame re-started the Reggae page. Whilst the coverage of Reggae in Black Music Magazine, (most notably by Carl Gayle) and in Black Echoes was far more comprehensive by this time, the page in Blues And Soul continued to be one of the most valuable sources of information on Reggae Music in the 1970's. Dave Hendley stopped writing for Blues And Soul in 1978 and unfortunately the Reggae content in the magazine ceased.
