Tommy McCookTommy McCook (b. 1927 d. 5 May 1998). Tommy McCook attended Alpha Boys School where he learned to play tenor saxaphone and flute. He left at the age of fourteen and started playing with various dance and jazz bands in Jamaica including Eric Deans Band.
He left the island to work with a danceband in the Bahamas in 1954 and did not returrn to jamaica untill around eight years later. On his return he found work with session bands in Kingston and began recording for the emerging record producers.
In 1964 he was a founding member of The Skatalites and remained in the band until it disolved following the arrest of Don Drummond for the murder of his girlfriend in August 1965.
After the break up of the Skatalites McCook founded the Supersonics who recorded most notably Duke Reid through the Rocksteady period and up to 1969.
He died of heart failure brought on by pneumonia in May 1998.
