Super Cat

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 5 months ago

Super Cat (b William Maragh 1966) is a DJ who rose to prominence in the mid 80's with hits such as Vineyard Party (Skengdon), Trash And Ready (Jammy's) and Boops (Techniques).

Born of mixed Black and Indian parentage in the Seivright Gardens (then known as Cockburn Pen) area of Kingston. He first worked with the Cockburn Pen Sound System Soul Imperial, joining them at the age of seven. He was initially known as Cat-A-Rock before changing his name to Super Cat. The name Cat-A-Rock he was given by Echo (b. Abraham Ferron, the younger brother of George Ferron that is refered to in Bob Marley's »Stir It Up«). His first recording was Mr Walker, a combination with deejay Bruk Back released on the Techniques label in '81. After his debut he ended up in prison where he was dubbed Super Cat by his late, great friend Poet Jimmy Andem. The name Cat-A-Rock sounded too much as the word cataract. Upon being released from prison he once again sought a musical career, this time teaming up with the deejay Early B. It was Early B who gave him the name Wild Apache that he also is known as - Apache referring to his East Indian heritage. Together they formed the Super Posse Crew with the members being Ninjaman (then known as Uglyman - not the rockstone voice), Iron Man, German, Muma Nancy, Audie Murphy, Daddy Wayne and Junior Cat.

Super Cat deejayed for several sound systems such as Crystal Blue, Stereograph, Virgo Hifi, Soul II Soul, Prince Jammy's original sound Tape-Tone, Supreme Of Love, Papa Roots Hi-Fi, King Majesty, Black Scorpio, Studio Mix, Killamanjaro, and Stur Mars.
