Small Axe Files was a publication by Ray Hurford. Not to be confused with its relative (the magazine Small Axe) SAF had a different focus. Instead of presenting various artists each issue, SAF focused on one artist or aspect of reggae in every issue. The articles focusing on artists often featured a lengthy interview and a discography. This was an in depth look on artists rarely seen in reggae before. An issue of the SAF was approximately 20 pages long.

The first issue was released in 1991 and featured the deejay pioneer Dennis Alcapone. It was followed by 20 more issues before Ray Hurford stopped producing it in 1992.
