Biography

Lone Ranger was born Anthony Weldron in the labour ward down at Jubilee Hospital, Kingston, Jamaica. Lone Ranger's deejaying style was based on the groundbreaking deejay U-Roy. Originally he had been a part of Soul Express Sound System from Kingston where he featured as a singer. Another one featured at the sound was the singer Carlton Livingston but at that time as a deejay. Lone Ranger's first record »The Answer« (a version of Slim Smiths classic »Never Let Go«) was released on Studio One in 1977. He released a couple of records on Studio One, some of them as a deejay duo with Welton Irie. Even though the singles made his name spread it was the hit »Barnabus Collins« released in 1980 that was his first major hit. The song was produced by Leon Synmoie on his Thrillseekers label. The Sound System for whom he deejayed at the time, Virgo Hifi, also won the El Suzie award as the best sound system in Jamaica the same year. The year later Lone Ranger won the El Suzie award for best deejay. In 1982 he was awarded with a gold trophy from Skateland Roller Disco were he had performed countless nights.

He soon returned to Studio One again and recorded more songs now more actively using catchphrases as bim, oink and ribbit that were associated with the deejays in the dance halls. He later on recorded for producers such as Winston Riley.

To the best of my knowlede Lone Ranger was born in England and came to Jamaica at age 12. I went to school with him at Vauxhall on Winward Road in 1971. Lone Ranger was a prolific footballer at Vauxhall. He made the team the first year he started school in grade 7. This was a big thing in those days. It was rare for a 7th grader to make the football team. This is to show how good he was. He went on to play all three years and was offered scholarships but went into the DJ business instead. Also not many people knew that Ringo, who was Lone Ranger's prentice, so to speak, also went to Vauxhall. We were all in the same class together. Ringo's correct name was Bradley Stewart. He was considered a "sweet boy" before he went on to follow Lone Ranger in the DJ business. This was in complete contrast to his character as "sweet boy"
Puddy Ranks also went to Vauxhall but was two years ahead of us. Lots more
