Dread DiamondsA Sound System from Brixton, UK. Originally known as Red Diamond the sound was renamed Dread Diamonds when the operator Victor D took it over from his brother. The sound played primarily in the Brixton area in the early 80's. MC's included Horseman, Ranking T, Ritchie Ranking and Ukey.
The sound rebuilt and relaunched in the mid 80's, along side the original MC's Ricky Ranking (not to be confused with the above Ritchie Ranking) worked with the sound around this time.
*Sound Tapes* Dread Diamonds V's Sir Coxsone. Tavistock Centre, West London 26/7/85 Deejays Horseman, Ukey, Ricky Ranking. Not a clash, at least not on the evidence of this tape. A few early specials are heard, by Earl 16 and Mikey Dread. The latter being a overlong spoken description about the emergence of reggae featuring very short snippets of Millies - My Boy Lollipop and Desmond Dekkers Israelites.
