Bobby Culture

Page history last edited by PBworks 15 years, 7 months ago

Bobby Culture (b. Fitzloyd Billings) was mostly known for working for Jack Ruby's Sound System, Jack Ruby Hifi out of Ocho Rios. In 1982 Bobby featured in the documentary Deep Roots Music where he was seen deejaying on Jack Ruby's sound. During the early 80's he had some minor hits in Jamaica such as Health & Strength on the Leggo Sounds label. He also released some 12" on the Claypot label out of Miami.

Bobby was, like Brigadier Jerry, more famous for his live work!

he invented a lot of styles and lyrics that other deejays would use

and make their name and reputation on.

Bobby & Briggy were some of THE wickedest lyricists in reggae/dancehall history!

The singer Brimstone & Fire and Bobby Culture later on went to America on a tour with the producer Jack Ruby. When in America Bobby Culture recorded an album together with Brimstone & Fire, Louie Rankin and Nicodemus. The album was called Tidal Wave and was released on the Unicorn label in 1983.

Bobby was murdered the 16th of march in 1994 when he was shot in the head during a robbery.
